Rice Endorses Whitman for Governor

This comes not only as a surprise (Condi obviously felt obligated to put her hand into this race) but as a great and enthusiastic welcome for those supporting fiscal responsibility and economic growth.  Meg Whitman is exactly what California needs.

Just over a year after she got out of the political spotlight, a familiar headliner is putting her name back in the news. 

Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is endorsing Republican candidate Meg Whitman for California governor.
  

California is my home and there is only one person running for Governor who can lead the way toward rebuilding our state,” Rice said via a press release. “In my experiences in and out of government, I find the most effective leaders to be those who maintain a clear vision, mobilize diverse groups, and inspire them to work together in confronting the most pressing challenges. That is why I am supporting Meg Whitman. She is a proven leader who developed a small start-up company into a global economic powerhouse and encouraged entrepreneurialism at all levels of society. Meg will do what is needed to get California back on track.

Rice’s endorsement comes on the same day another candidate officially tosses his hat into the ring. Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner will file papers in Santa Clara County Monday to become a candidate for state governor. He comes into the race already behind. 

Polls show Whitman is leading on the Republican side and running even with Democratic state Attorney General Jerry Brown.
