New Rassmussen Poll Has Mitt Romney Tied With Barack Obama

This Rassmussen poll was released at 10:30AM EST.  It was conducted as a ‘Mitt Romney/Sarah Palin Vs. Barack Obama’ poll and has Romney and Obama in a dead heat.  In an earlier post, I indicated to our readers that it does indeed look like the 2012 prospects are shaping up to be a ‘Romney Vs. Obama’ contest.  Romney’s numbers continue to climb as Obama’s shrink.

RASMUSSEN 2012 poll released at 10:30AM ET

Obama 45% Romney 45%
Obama 48% Palin 42%

John Cronin over at ‘Committed to Romney’ reported on this story,  just this morning.

POLITICO

Obama to meet Mormon leader

From the no-stone-unturned department: Tomorrow’s schedule says the president will meet Latter-Day Saints Church President Thomas Monson, in the company of Senate Minority Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Mormon.

Then, in light of the new poll out today, this was noted.

Obama’s likeliest 2012 foe, Mitt Romney, is a Mormon whose political organization has long drawn support from LDS, but that’s evidently no obstacle.

I’ve long been an admirer of Mitt Romney’s economic, business and political skills – going back to my residence in Massachusetts when he was candidate for senator.

He had a terrific opportunity against Ted Kennedy in the 1994 election. A significant proportion of Democrats were ready to consider an substantive alternative to Kennedy’s slickness and partisan ways. But the Romney campaign inexplicably played the Kennedy game. It didn’t focus on Romney strengths – instead concentrating on attacking Kennedy for his liberalism and partisanship. Campaign managers and presumably Mitt overlooked the fact that Massachusetts voters were schizophrenic – part of them loved Kennedy’s liberalism and partisanship – and his color. They were also realists (or they would not have voted in a succession of Republican governors including Mitt Romney). A substantial number were ready to go for a campaign that concentrated on Romney competence and substance.

In stead, the Romney campaign adopted the tired old partisan tack that put Romney in the same category as other politicians. Kennedy had plenty of experience with partisan battles!

RomneHe could have made his desired points, deftly skewering Kennedy by faint praise, acknowledging his color, charm and emotional appeal – while suggesting that he might be too often misguided. Sadly, we got stuck with Kennedy.

The 2008 campaign inexplicably avoided capitalizing on the acknowledged Romney skills and track record – including hnsi working out a health care deal even in a rock-ribbed state like Massachusetts. What a preparation for a new, more bipartisan leadership in Washington!

So I ask the question: is it possible for a logical, responsible, competent man whose campaign instincts isolate him from many citizens who who vote on hope, emotions and instincts and are burned out on partisanship, to bring on advisors who think out of the box, have flair and boldness, and are not afraid to express judgments about strategies?

    Frank,

So glad to have you comment on our blog. Please consider contributing in the comments section in the future. We need voices such as yours. Remember when Reagan said, after he was shot, that after that experience he had learned to listen and trust his own judgment rather than all the voices around him( do you think he meant advisers?).

It us unfortunate indeed that someone with Mitt’s stature and definite qualifications should feel like he has to convince the radical Evangelical base of our party that he is their friend. Mitt experience, skills, judgment, record, and overall character should make it a no brainer for voters.

Mitt is doing everything right and has been since the primary. He is more like Reagan than any of the others. He knows what the country needs and he is the man to make it happen..This country is so blessed to have such a man as Mitt..His DNA spells President 2012…..

Keeping the focus on Romney’s phenomenal capabilities and accomplishments would put the pale on campaign competitors. Some say asking Mitt to change who he is to get the go-by-the-gut crowd vote is wrong. Mitt shouldn’t and doesn’t have to change who he is! But, using judgment in toning down ‘boardroom speak’ and throwing out over-used, usual talking points will be vital for Mitt.

Many folks want a genius for POTUS who has the unique capacity of conveying the intelligence of a Greek philosopher while speaking in their own language and genuinely touching their hearts. If it takes new advisors to do that, so be it!

You see of course that most of us remember the things that Mr. Romney warned about before BHO was elected…wow, they all came true, and while a surprise to some it has caused many to look more closely at Mitt and I think he has a good chance of presenting a Reagan-like campaign. More than that…being like Reagan as regards foreign policy and fiscal policy. He is a proven leader. He has done it. Their will be much he contributes to the office of President. Today we are tense over the fact that our current President doesn’t seem to know what he is doing. As a community organizer he could probably hide-out and wing-it. The White House is not supposed to be your leadership pre-school.
