Obama Says ‘No’ To Pensions For WW II Alaska Guards

McClatchy News Service reports:

WASHINGTON — In a strongly worded message to Congress outlining its priorities for a military spending bill, the Obama administration today said it disapproved of including money for pensions for 26 elderly members of the World War II-era Alaska Territorial Guard.

The Guardsmen are among those assigned to protect Alaska from the Japanese during World War II.

The Army decided this year to no longer count service in the Guard in calculating the military’s 20-year minimum for retirement pay, although it still counts for military benefits. As a result, their pensions were decreased in January.

An estimated 300 members are still living from the original 6,600-member unit formed in 1942 to protect Alaska, then a territory, from attack. The 26 men have enough other military service to reach the 20-year minimum for retirement pay but would lose it if the Territorial Guard service doesn’t count.

A Senate military spending bill up for a vote in the Senate allows the former Guard members count their service as part of active military duty, and it reinstates the payments.

State lawmakers passed a bill earlier this year to fill the pay gap until Congress made a permanent fix, but the White House said Friday it didn’t think it was “appropriate to establish a precedent of treating service performed by a state employee as active duty for purposes of the computation of retired pay.”

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who along with Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, sponsored the fix, called the administration move “deeply disappointing, bordering on insensitive.” The legislation honors 26 elderly Native people who are the few remaining survivors of a military unit that served the country with valor, Murkowski said.

“The administration’s justification, which is that the legislation will set the precedent of treating service as a state employee as federal service, defies logic and history,” she said in a statement. “Sixty-two years after the Territorial Guard was disbanded, the Obama administration minimizes the contribution of this gallant unit to America’s success in World War II by calling its service ‘state service.’ “

We have been told that the President’s healtcare plan will not lead to rationing.  We have been told that he would never cut off the elderly’s medical benefits to save a few bucks.  “How could you even think that the President would ever do such a thing?” we have been asked.  Only Republicans would be so cold-hearted and cruel.  In fact, many supporters of the President, including his cheerleaders in the state run media,  have called those who have said that such things were possible under his healtcare plan are all “liars.”

And yet, Mr. Obama cuts off pension benefits to 26 WWII vets and denied the applications of 37 more WWII vets, to save a few bucks.  Actions speak louder than words, Mr. President.  Give us a reason to believe your claims that you would never ration healthcare and restore the pensions of these brave veterans who deserve far better than the treatment you have given them.

Mitt Romney: Obama Acting ‘Above’ World Stage

The Gloves Are Off

Mitt Romney spoke at the biennial Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference on Mackinac Island, Michigan last Saturday. He didn’t mince words.  Mitt said:

After listening to Obama and Netanyahu, many bloggers have pointed out that many people are wondering who is the real leader of the free world?

CNN reported this:

MACKINAC ISLAND, Michigan (CNN) – Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney had sharp words for President Barack Obama’s handling of foreign relations Saturday, saying that the president is “above” the world stage and acting too much as a “neutral arbiter” who uses only words to tell other nations what’s right and what’s wrong.

Referring to the first months of Obama’s presidency, the former Republican presidential candidate said there’s been a “dramatic shift,” with that shift going in the wrong direction.

“America has always been a ardent supporter of democratic efforts and protecting and defending American values and western values,” Romney said, “but this president seems intent to step back to — if you will — lift himself above the world stage and say we’re not a player down there with everybody else between the democracies and the autocracies.”

“Instead we’re going to become the neutral arbiter,” Romney continued. “We’re going to be above everybody. Almost like the United Nations, sort of telling people what’s right and what’s wrong, instead of coming down firmly, solidly, and vehemently in favor of democracy.”

Romney pointed to Obama’s handling of ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya’s return to Brazil last week to illustrate one example of the president’s poor judgment when it comes to world affairs.

“Honduras…tosses out their president who’s trying to violate the constitution,” Romney began. “This was a person who was a pro-[Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, anti-American president. And then they installed instead an acting president [Roberto Micheletti] who will follow a democratic process, [a] pro-U.S. individual. Barrack Obama comes out for the pro-Chavez president and says put him back in charge.”

Romney was speaking at the biennial Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference on Mackinac Island, Michigan. Romney has been widely suspected to be laying groundwork for another run at the White House.

A few of his comments were aimed at the specific economic woes of Michigan — a state Romney’s father governed.

Romney, and his wife Ann, heaped love on the state, saying he was “heartbroken” to see so many people out of a job but that it “doesn’t have to be that way.” He said one of the first things needed is a “Giuliani-style” cleanup of Detroit

One of the bigger applause lines of the night came when Romney said the state should do a few things to help attract more business folks, including lowering business taxes.

“Another thing to do would be to say we’re going to make this a state which is a right to work state,” he said to thunderous applause. “Of course the most convincing thing you could do would be to throw the democrats out of [the capital city of] Lansing.”

America Has Nothing On European Style Racism

Next time you hear someone cry racism in this country, remember what you have seen in this video.  Is is unfortunate that the most petty and unfounded racism claims are here in America -The Land of The Free?

With a black man as President of the United States and 2 former Secretary’s of State being black (the list goes on) why are there still people crying racism at every opportunity they can get?  Barack Obama himself said on the Jay Leno Show, when asked if he agreed with Jimmy Carter’s remarks that the tea party opposition is in large part due to the fact that we have a black man as President, that “I was black before the election.”  If racism were so rampant in this country, as some misguided folds would have us believe, then Obama would have never come close to being elected POTUS.

Yet again, we trace these unfounded pejorative claim back to the left.  When is the last time you heard a black Republican crying “racism”?  When is the last time you heard J.C. Watts, Condoleezza Rice, Alan Keys or even Collin Powell, shouting racism?  No, you only hear it from the divisive left.  You hear at nausea from divisive black politicians such as Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and their white colleagues who know they can make a political issue out of a topic still somewhat sensitive, and is now becoming more and more sensitive, in this country.

Rather than seek to heal the wounds of the past, they seek to enlarge them.  They do not want them to go away.  Psychoanalysis shows us that people focus on the things they want the most.  If they truly wanted it to go away, they would not only not claim racism at every corner, they would seek to give no energy to it’s taunting by reacting to it.  Reactiveness can never be used in a proactive sense.  They are reacting to what they really are!  The great author of “The 7 Habits of The Most Highly Effective People,” Steven R. Covey said, “we don’t see things as they are, we see things as WE are.”

So, when the left cries racism, what they are really doing is being acted upon by what they really are, and are projecting themselves onto those who oppose their perverted paradigm.

Mitt Romney Burnishes His Foreign Policy Credential…Race42012 Should Bag Alex Knepper

Last week, Alex Knepper over at Race42012 sought to find fault with, yet again, with Governor Romney.  As is the case with almost everything that spews out of “The Knepper’s” mouth,  his emotions and disdain for Romney have clearly clouded his judgement.

Alex had this to say:

I had the pleasure of attending the first annual Foreign Policy Initiative conference yesterday, and in between mingling with the insiders while drinking bottles of Fiji water, a luncheon with Mitt Romney took place. The governor answered a few questions from a moderator, and while most of what he said was the typical red-meat fare that even I had to like, there was a rather noticeable gaffe.

Here is what he is referecing from Mitt’s statement:

Today, at the Foreign Policy Initiative’s annual conference in Washington, D.C., former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney opined that the President’s decision to halt plans for a missile shield in Eastern Europe may have been made on faulty intelligence. Describing the President’s move as a “kick in the sand at Poland and the Czech Republic” that was “visible, embarrassing and disruptive,” the former Presidential candidate questioned the quality of the information used to make the decision.

“Is our intelligence really that good?” he wondered aloud, “Is our eyesight into Iran that clear?”

Former Gov. Romney asserted that the decision to shelve plans to deploy a missile shield was made on the mistaken assumption that since Iran’s regime is not developing long-range missiles, defending against long-range missiles would be a waste of resources. Even if they weren’t developing this technology, Romney argued, “There are places in the world where they [Iran] might acquire long-range ballistic missiles.”

Alex Knepper then goes on to say this:

Really? Following this principle to its logical end, we could hardly do anything but act in a near-panic, not being sure exactly what was going on, constantly questioning whether our intelligence was “really that good.” Romney seems to misunderstand why exactly the right is so ardently opposed to Obama’s decision in Eastern Europe: it is a slap in the face to our friends — Jon Kyl, who’d spoken earlier yesterday morning, spoke sadly of headlines from the region crying “Betrayal!” — a symbolic gesture of appeasement towards Russia. The problem, in other words, isn’t faulty intelligence. It’s the symbolism.

I should just respond to Alex’ assessment of this statement by letting readers know that nearly every single piece he has written over at Race42012 is either Pro-Palin or Anti-Romney.  The reason I mention this is because it is essential for people to understand that you cannot trust the judgement of someone who’s paradigm is shaped by an illogically bias and perpetual pattern of thought that is so one sided.  Not once have I heard Knepper praise Romney for his virtues, which are many.  In short, Alex, in an attempt to deceive his readers, is only deceiving himself.

Furthermore, Former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton said the exact same thing on Fox News last night that Mitt Romney said at the Foreign Policy Initiative.

Here is Botlon’s interview with Greta Van Susteran:

Video of Mitt Romney’s “Conversation” at the Foreign Policy Initiative Luncheon

This video is quite long but gives us a great glimpse into Mitt Romney’s views on Foreign Policy.  He speaks with great gravitas and authority on this issue.

Jennifer Ruben gives a recap of the event here.  Her intro:

Former governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney was the lunch speaker at the Foreign Policy Initiative conference. In a conversational interview with FPI board member Dan Senor, he appeared more relaxed and fluent than he had on the campaign trail. Without a fixed script (or any notes), he was able to demonstrate some impressive grasp of details while setting forth his big-picture critique of the Obama foreign policy. He gave credit to the president for his willingness to stick to a winning strategy in Iraq and for not “yanking all the troops out,” as he had promised during the campaign. But that is where his praise ended.
